Past Simple Exercises - Random Sentence Generator

Updated: Feb 2, 2022

Once you have mastered Present Simple be, Present Simple not be, and Present Continuous, you are ready to move onto Past Simple sentence. The good thing is, this step is much easier than the last one. The rules for using ‘be’ are the same. Even when translating from Russian it’s easier. When we do Present Simple, we have to remember to add the verb ‘be’ when the Russian sentence has no verb. But with Past Simple sentences it’s pretty easy to remember был, была, было => was and были => were. The constructions for affirmative, negative, and questions are exactly the same, just putting the past form of be in place of is, am, are. With not be sentences, the construction becomes even simpler because all pronouns take the same form. I did, you did, he did. BUT we now are introduced to irregular verbs. We only need to remember them in the affirmative form. Because we have a pile of rules to remember, it’s good to train these sentences as well. Below you’ll find a random sentence generator for past simple. Remember the time phrases used with each sentence. We have several different ways to talk about the past. Past Simple is for finished actions that are in the past. These time phrases are associated with this time. If you don’t know some of these translations, be sure to check the quizlet created for this exercise.
